Clara Johannes, 93, of Columbus, Nebraska died Tuesday, December 16, 2003 at the Beverly Healthcare in Columbus.
The funeral service will be on Friday, December 19, 2003, 11:00 A.M. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus with Rev. Roland A. Jank officiating. Interment will be in the Columbus Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Friday from 10:00 - 11:00 A.M. at the church with a family prayer service at 10:45 A.M.
Clara Johannes was born April 6, 1910 in rural Leigh, Nebraska to Carl & Alwine (Rabeler) Mullenhoff. She graduated from Leigh High School and went on to Kearney Teacher's College for one year. She taught elementary school in the Leigh area for six years. On December 26, 1935 she married Werner Johannes at her parent's home in Leigh. They moved to Columbus where they made their home.
Clara was a bookkeeper for Consumer Cooperative Association for 11 years. She worked in the payroll department at Becton-Dickinson for 13 years. After retirement, she was a docent at the Columbus Art Gallery. Clara was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary for 28 years, a member of the Sprigs & Spouts Garden Club, and a 51 year member of P.E.O.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and an active member of its Evening Guild. Her prime hobby was growing flowers, especially roses, and their arrangements in bouquets. Clara loved to quilt, cook, and bake.

Son - Kenneth (Dale) Johannes, Topeka, KS
