Julius graduated from Leigh, NE. High School in 1914. He was a grocery store owner in Leigh, NE. from 1923 until he retired in 1964. According to the 75th ANNIVERSARY HISTORY OF LEIGH, published 1962; Julius started in the grocery and dry goods business in partnership with Frank Smrz in 1923. He assumed complete ownership in 1946 and was assisted by his wife, Anna.
Julius served on the Leigh School Board and as City Clerk. He was a member of the Leigh Community Club, Leigh Commercial Club, and the Businessmen's Club.

Miss Maymie Vasek is leaving the first of the month for Columbus to accept a position as bookkeeper in the Central National Bank. She has been an efficient clerk at Smrz & Moeller for the past two years. Mrs. Dora Schluter will fill the position left by Miss Vase

From THE LEIGH (NE.) WORLD, April 5, 1946-
F. J. Smrz, who with his family has decided to move to Omaha, disposed of their business connections and their property holdings at Leigh. Mr. and Mrs. Smrz purchased a home in north Omaha. The house is located half a block from the school which their son, Dickie, attends.
An agreement has been reached between Mr. Smrz and his business partner, J. O. Moeller, by which Mr. Moeller will take over the entire business sometime in the next few months, prior to the removal of Mr. Smrz and his family to Omaha in the early fall.
