From THE COLUMBUS (NE.) TELEGRAM, July 5, 2003-
Don Barr, 61, of Columbus, Nebraska died July 4, 2003 at St. Mary's Hospital
in Rochester, Minnesota while visiting family.
Services are Tuesday, July 8, 2003 at 10:00 AM at the First United Methodist
Church in Columbus with Rev. Bill Ritter officiating. Interment is at the
Columbus Cemetery.
Visitation is Monday, July 7 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Gass Haney
Funeral Home and on Tuesday, July 8 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 with a family
prayer service at 9:45 AM at the church.
Don Barr was born on February 27, 1942 to George M. & Yvonne (Roberts) Barr
in Norfolk, Nebraska. He graduated from Leigh, Nebraska High School in 1960.
On November 18, 1961, he married Jane Olson at Zion Lutheran Church in
Leigh. He farmed the family farm in Leigh until 1963. At that time, they
moved to Storm Lake, Iowa where he was a manager for Colombian Feed. In
1968, they moved to Fremont, Nebraska where Don was self-employed as a truck
driver for MTR and Eckley Trucking Firm.
In 1974, they moved to Columbus where he was employed as General
Transportation Manager for Lindsay Manufacturing and was involved with the
Nebraska Motor Carriers Association. In 1995, he started his own Freight
Brokerage business. He retired in 2001.
Don was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Columbus. He
enjoyed spending time with his family. He adored his grandchildren and loved
being with them and watching their activities.
