LEIGH - Verna Barjenbruch, 91, of Leigh, died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004, at Colonial Manor in Clarkson.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church in Leigh, with the Rev. Terry Timm officiating. Burial is at the church cemetery. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Leigh Memorial Funeral Chapel in Leigh and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Mrs. Barjenbruch was born Feb. 11, 1913, in rural Leigh to August and Katherine (Speckmann) Asche. She attended Zion Lutheran School and District 20 near Leigh. She was a 1931 graduate of Leigh High School and attended Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kan., for one year.
She married Clarence H. Barjenbruch on May 24, 1938, in Leigh. She was a lifetime resident of Leigh. She worked for Emma Holmes in her ready-to-wear store and Holmes Funeral Home. She also worked for four years at Smrz and Moller Grocery and Dry Goods Store in Leigh.
She was a member of the church, Zion Sewing Circle and Leigh Women's Club. She enjoyed flowers, cooking, baking, playing cards and bingo.
Survivors include one son, Kenneth (Kay) Barjenbruch of Omaha; one daughter, Carolyn (Phillip) Timmins of Morristown, N.J.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband on May 18, 1999; one brother, Leonard Asche; and one sister, Edith Bera.
