COLUMBUS -- Eugene Grotelueschen, 83, of Columbus, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008, at the Columbus Community Hospital.
The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 29, at Christ Lutheran Church with the Rev. John E. Nelson, Jr. officiating. Interment will be in the Christ Lutheran cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. on Sunday at the Gass-Haney Funeral Home and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, with a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m.
Eugene was born March 21, 1925, in rural Leigh, to Emil and Rosa (Wilke) Grotelueschen. He was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church, and attended school at Christ Lutheran School, Wilson Jr. High, and Leigh High School. On April 20, 1954, he married Maxine Petersen at Grace Lutheran Church in Platte Center. He farmed south of Leigh and retired and moved to Columbus in 1990. He was a lifelong member of Christ Lutheran Church and served there in many capacities. Besides farming, he enjoyed vegetable gardening and tending his many fruit trees.
Eugene is survived by his wife, Maxine of Columbus; two daughters, Gwen (Gene) Bedient of Lincoln and Miriam (Gregg) Roth of Columbus; two sons, Bryce (Tammy) Grotelueschen of Leigh and Myron Grotelueschen of Tucson, Ariz.; two sisters, Evelyn (Paul) Mueller of Sioux City, Iowa, Rose Marie (Frederick) Graft of Fort Wayne, Ind., and a brother, Martin Grotelueschen of Leigh; grandchildren, Delphine Bedient, Alicia and Kevin Roth, Kyle and Kaycee Grotelueschen, Garrett and Lance Grotelueschen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Rosa (Wilke) Grotelueschen; brothers, Gilbert and Clarence Grotelueschen; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Anna and Reinhold Bock, Velma and LeRoy Frese, and Edna and Les Pieper.
Memorials may be directed to Christ Lutheran School or donor's choice.
