LEIGH -- Evelyn R. Lake, 85, of Leigh, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, at the Waverly Care Center in Waverly.
The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Leigh, with Pastor Theresa Meyer officiating. Interment will be in the Leigh City Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Gass Haney Funeral Home in Columbus and continue on Wednesday from 1 p.m. until service time with a 1:45 p.m. family prayer service at the church.
Evelyn Lake was born Sept. 26, 1923, in Columbus, to William and Louise (Feye) Gernstein. She graduated from Leigh High School and started working as a medical office assistant for doctors in the Columbus and Leigh area. On April 22, 1945, Evelyn was united in marriage to Robert Roy Lake. They made their home in Leigh where Evelyn worked as a cook for Flossies Cafe and the Tri-County Restaurant. She was co-owner of Lake Antiques in Leigh for several years. Evelyn was a member of the Leigh Auxiliary and St. Johns Lutheran Church.
Evelyn is survived by daughters, Pat (Darrell) Asche of Lincoln, Janet (Rod) Johnsen of Auburn, Kan.; daughter-in-law, Ellen Lake of Columbus; grandchildren, Jeff (Kerry) Lake of Omaha, Kim (Ryan) Luttringer of Elizabeth, Colo., Katie Benson of Lawrence, Kan., Melissa Asche of Lincoln, Elizabeth Benson of Hays, Kan., Kayla Asche of Lincoln; great-grandchildren, Peyton, Riley, Kalli and Colton Luttringer of Elizabeth, Colo., and Alissa Lake of Omaha.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, William and Louise Gernstein; husband, Robert Roy Lake; sons, Robert William and Donald Gene Lake; and brothers, Lawrence and Harold Gernstein.
