He was accompanied by his older sister, Dorothea, and younger sister, Elizabeth. (GERMANS TO AMERICA PASSENGER LISTS, Ira A. Glazier and P. William Philby). The ship's manifest also shows Alexander Erb accompanied them; a third cousin.

      An younger brother, Michael, had arrived in 1851, and is one of the founders of Columbus, NE.[ColfaxDeutschlandPlatte.FBK.FTW]
