Edwin shot himself with a shotgun.

Sandra wrote in 1995 to John Inglis, " It was funny reading about what you remember about my Dad 'cause you and I are the first ones to ever talk about him. It was like we couldn't talk about it 'cause it would hurt someones feelings, and that is so wrong. I remember going to the funeral, riding with Ed and Elsa, and it wasn't until on the way to Omaha that Elsa told Gerold and I that he had taken his life and that we shouldn't talk to Inez 'cause she was mad at us. When we lived on the farm, and he would disappear, Mother had a code that she would use andcall Grandpa, and then he'd know he had to come and do chores. Another time, when we lived in a one room apartment in Columbus, he left. Mother had twenty five cents and a can of soup. Grandpa came, packed us up, and took us to the farm (Adolph's). That's when Mother got the divorce and her Dad put her thru beauty school. We lived with Grandma and Grandpa while she went toschool. Donnie and I had it easy 'cause we were always treated good, but Edwin picked on Gerold and he is very bitter, and I try not to judge him 'cause I'm sure it wasn't easy for him".
