      From THE GASS HANEY FUNERAL HOME ARCHIVES-

      Elmer "Bud" Went, 93, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Sunday, February 1, 2009, at the Golden Living Center in Columbus.

      The funeral service will be on Thursday, February 5 at 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus with Pastor Doug Zurek officiating. Interment will be in the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue on Thursday from 9:30 AM until service time at the church. There will be a family prayer service on Thursday at 10:15 AM also at the church. Memorials are suggested as the donor's or family choice.

      Elmer Went was born July 29, 1915, in Enid, Oklahoma, to John and Anna (Asche) Went. They moved to Nebraska when Elmer was one year old. He attended District 58 grade school and Creston High School. On November 20, 1939, Elmer and Hilda Groteluschen eloped to Sioux City, Iowa. Elmer was life long Platte County farmer. He enjoyed bowling, playing pool, and swimming. Elmer served on the District 58 School Board for many years. He enjoyed raising his purebred Angus Cattle. When he had free time, Elmer worked at Creston Manufacturing.

      Elmer and Hilda retired and moved into Columbus in 1980. Elmer kept busy by maintaining his lawn, working at the Creston Fertilizer Company, the Humphrey John-Deere, and until three years ago did lawn maintenance at the Elks County Club.
